NOLA day 2: lower 9th ward + brad pitt's make it right project

City skyline from the Lake Ponchatrain Causeway- also the longest bridge in the world over a continuous body of water.
See the spray painted "X" on the left house?  They were all over the houses in this area where Katrina hit the hardest.  The bottom space represents how many dead bodies were found in the house.  Luckily this one didn't have any.
See the branches & debris on top of the house?  The flood water put them there.
All these modern looking houses are apart of Brad Pitt's project.  35 in all.
A FEMA trailer.
A houseboat, but on land.  We wondered how you get it back to the right location if the water moves it?
The blue lines represent the flood water levels.
Some people still haven't returned.
The city's $500 million dollar pumping system.  Brilliant in theory.  Too bad it doesn't work when the power is out & has no back-up generator for such occasions.  Essentially useless in catastrophic situations.
