Voltaire Books- the bookstore right across from our room.
Remnants of someone's hard night.
Chickens, cats, bikes & scooters rule this town- they're everywhere.
Zane has been intrigued by these for months - they're called 'Vibram 5-fingers'- essentially a glove for your feet. When Tony came to visit last month, and he had a pair- it was the nail in the coffin that sealed the deal & he's been on a mission ever since to score a pair. But they're a hot item & every dealer in town has been wait-listed, so when he found 'Sole Man' in KW with a new shipment of course... he walked out a happy man.
Once we parked the car early that Monday afternoon we didn't get in it again until we left Thursday morning. The town is only like 2 x 4 miles, so everything is accessible + our b&b was only a half a block off the main street, Duval. We were just far enough to have peace & quiet, and just close enough to have amazing convenience.
There is something so exciting about being in a new town, having no agenda & just walking wherever 'the wind' takes you. This was our first 'aimless' walk around town thru our eyes.
Any town that celebrates the sunset nightly is good in my book. We sat at dock, eating conch & watched the sky transform.
A note on conch. KW refers to itself to 'the Conch Republic' so conch is pretty much a staple on every restaurant menu. We ended up having it everyday. Each restaurant has it's own unique dipping sauce so we tried a pink guava salsa, an orange marmalade horseradish & key-lime mayo. All were delish.
Always love your "funky" (I mean that in a very good way!) perspectives in your photographs! And I LOVE the sunset! FL has never been on my bucket list, but you are making it so!
ReplyDeleteThank you Melisa! That means alot to me. I always try hard to keep it fresh & interesting. *someday* when (yes, when) i go back to school i'll be able to take real photography classes so i can learn about lighting & all those important elements. & then maybe i can justify getting a decent cam;) & i have to tell you... florida never interested me in the least, obviously i have grown to love this state... but trust me. i actually have distinctive memories of when i was a little girl... dreaming/talking about places i might live someday with a friend & i clearly stated to them how stupid i thought it would be to live in florida. between alligators, hurricanes & bugs i just couldn't imagine why ANYBODY would live here. of course NEVER dreaming that i would end up here someday... funny how life is right? if you make it someday i think you might like it;) + we have the weather that seattle doesn't... which you seem to like, hee hee.
ReplyDeleteLoving the pictures...whats the guy on the wire? Is that for real? So, what is conch? Is it good? Does it have something to do with the conch shell?
ReplyDeletethere are 'street performers' every night for the sunset celebration so he was just performing that night... yes it was for real=) Conch is whatever meaty creature thing is in those shells- yes. Can't think about it too much- i mean it's all fried so it's just chewy- sorta like calamari.
